Blimsien | Branding for a blogger

Problem

Nina Czarnecka (also known as @blimsien) is an author, Ayurvedic coach and influencer who needed new brand guidelines and a professional logo. She runs a blog, sells products online and is active on Instagram. While her photography is recognisable and a strong point, other elements such as typefaces, colours and, above all, the logo were a random assortment of materials created organically over a long period of time. There was no visible theme or strong visual identity besides the photography. She wanted to change that and learn how to create great content herself using the new materials.

Solution

Her photography is filled with a feminine, sensual and slightly vintage vibe. The main theme needed to be warmth and softness. 'Blimsien' means 'flower', so it suited the branding perfectly!

The top priority was Instagram, so I created strong brand guidelines. I created a rich yet complementary colour scheme to be used throughout her channels and chose slightly vintage yet feminine typography. For the logo I customised the font that we liked, so that it had a little more character. I also created a set of vector graphics for her to use, ranging from grainy textures to flowers and vintage shapes. I also prepared sample graphics and instructions on how to set text and use the materials to achieve the best outcome.

Social media

The colour scheme, fonts and shape of the flower in the logo are core brand elements. To make content creation easier, I created sets of icons and shapes that can also be placed on photographs.

Typography guidance

I also provided a short guidebook offering advice on how to use and typeset the fonts and icons correctly. I knew that, although the client cares about details as much as I do, she has no experience in this area, so I provided a summary of the most important rules to help her achieve a professional look.

Website

Although her blog and shop are important for the business, there was no budget for redesigning the website. To create a direction for the future website I quickly put together a proposal showing how the brand guidelines could be implemented.

Products

As a separate task I assisted Nina in creating digital products, including e-books on Ayurveda and a cookbook. All e-books are PDFs containing hyperlinks and either custom illustrations or beautifully curated photography.
